1.Bottle Wall

Stance
This installation is designed to challenge the theses of “Public spaces are anti-social spaces”
Many people feel the press of modern life. Sometimes they cannot express their emotions and minds to friends. Bottle wall is used to help them express themselves. Usually, it is much easier to speak words to strangers rather than friends. Readers also do not know whose messages are.  Briefly, the bottle wall is a message board. People can leave messages for other people. However, they do not know which one will get this message. The may can tell some secrets or make invitations.
Installation set-up

  • a big wall (can made by cardboard)

  • the lawn in University of Queensland
Target Audience
UQ students
Concrete scenario of use

Student A walks through the lawn in UQ. She finds there is a wall with a lot of bottles. When she closes to the wall, she finds she can leave messages with this wall. She writes down an invitation (can write any kind of messages, here is an invitation )which says there is a party at this weekend near UQ lake. She puts the paper in the bottle then leave. Student B finds this paper and takes it out from the bottle. He decides to go the party. In the party, A and B becomes to friends.
Installation instructions
  • The wall can be made by cardboard. The bottles should be installed with the cardboard.
  • People can use pen and paper write down their messages like secrets, initiations or wishes. These messages will be left to people who open it next time.



2.Truth or dare

“Society has too many prohibitions and too few invitations”
Truth or dare is a game which should be done with others.
Stance
This installation is designed to challenge the theses of “Public spaces are anti-social spaces”
Installation set-up
  • circle with lights
  • lights on with words
  • words are detailed description for truth or dare
Installation site
  • UQ or large squares in public place
Target Audience
General people
Concrete scenario of use
Passer A walks through the square, he steps on one part of circle. Suddenly, the part which he stands on is lighting. There are also some words on it, “Give a hug to someone who closest to you”. This is a “dare” he should finish. He gives a hug to B and finishes the dare. B returns a smile to A. However, passers can choose if they join this game.

Installation instructions
  • A circle in the middle of square, a lot of people walk through the circle.
  • When people step on the circle, the step-on part will be lighting.
  • The words will appear on the lighting part. The words are the tasks of “Truth or dare”
  • People can choose if they join this game.



3.Hello Wall

This “Hello Wall” is used to communicate with each other.

This installation is designed to challenge the theses of “Public spaces are anti-social spaces”

  • Bus station
Target Audience
Passengers who wait at bus station
Concrete scenario of use
Passenger A is waiting for 412 bus at bus station. He finds there is a screen and he can watch next and last station passengers who are waiting for the bus right now. He said hello to other passengers and they reply to him. When 412 bus is coming, he gets on the bus and meet the people who he watches through the screen. When the bus to next station, he also meets other people.

Installation instructions
  • A screen at bus station, people can see others who are in last and next station through it.
  • People say hello to each other through the screen.
  • Passengers on the bus can meet the people who talk on the screen.
